Helpful conversation tips you should know
We know that messaging someone for the first time can be daunting. But that’s why we’re here. We’ve got lots of tips you can use to make sure your chat gets off to a great start.
Do:
Check out their profile first, so you can chat about their interests or things you have in common. It shows you’ve made an effort.
Send a GIF or one of our “hello” messages if you’re not sure what to say.
Play the questions game. It’s a fun, casual way for you to get to know each other.
Keep the open questions flowing. Just try not to make it an interview!
Ask for consent if you want to send a message or photo that might be sexual.
Don’t:
Send just “hey” or “hi” as the first message. There’s so much more you could say, plus it doesn’t give them much to reply to.
Copy and paste the same message to multiple people.
Message someone constantly if they haven’t replied yet or have expressed that they’re not interested. It’ll be overwhelming for them and could be seen as harassment.
Send unsolicited or non-consensual sexual messages. It’s not cool and could get you blocked and reported.
